Day 5 (05/09) – Ærøskøbing- Voderup Klint

Posted under Denmark Tour 2014

Today we cycled to see the moraine cliffs of Voderup Klint on the south side of Ærø.

We bumped into a wedding party who seemed to be celebrating their reception there, and got the impression that this kind of outdoor wedding celebration was not uncommon in Denmark.

We returned via the cafe in the Town Square in Ærøskøbing which we had visited the day before, for a very pleasant late lunch and a drink

Day 4 (04/09) – Ærøskøbing

Posted under Denmark Tour 2014

Today we visited the town of Ærøskøbing. Our campsite for our stay on Ærø was close to the town, near the coast so it was just a quick tandem journey.

Ærøskøbing was every bit as lovely as we expected. The town square had a beautiful church to one side, and had a lovely cafe where we could relax over lunch and drinks. We we particularly interested in the lovely architecture of the old houses. We found the oldest house, and also the so-called prettiest house, which was lovely, but to be honest you could have chosen any number of candidates for the prettiest and it was largely down to personal taste!

We returned along the beach path past the beach huts, and later on returned to the beach to view the sunset on what had been a superb day.

Day 3 (03/09) – Ferry Trip from Faaborg to Ærø

Posted under Denmark Tour 2014

We decamped at Faaborg and left the car at the campsite to travel to Soby on Ærø via the ferry armed with the tandem and trailer in order to spend a few days touring, camping and spending time on Ærø.

We especially wanted to see the town of Ærøskøbing.  Ærøskøbing has been carefully restored and maintained in its original middle aged architectural style, and has an idyllic fairy tale look to all the houses and cottages with all their bright colours.

We also loved the feel of being on a small island, with the sea constantly present, the boats, and the wild feeling to the climate and nature.

Day 2 (02/09) – Egeskov Slot

Posted under Denmark Tour 2014

Last night we pitched camp at Faaborg in the South West of Funen for the first couple of nights – a very pleasant location and Faaborg is a lovely town.

Today we visited the renaissance castle of Egeskov Slot. The journey was not that long, around 15 miles, but was very hilly in places and we certainly put our new Schlumpf Mountain Drive gears to good use!
